Simvastatin is a member of the hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors, or also called as statins.

Simvastatin or statin are used in the treatment of dyslipidemia.

The marketing for Simvastatins or statins are approved by the FDA way back in 1991.

These drugs reduce the biosynthesis of cholesterol by inhibiting the the early and rate-limiting step in the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate.
